Harlandale ISD Names New Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

San Antonio, TX. — Harlandale ISD named Melissa Casey as the new Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction during the April 21 regular scheduled board meeting of the Board of Trustees.


Casey has been serving as interim assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction and spearheading the distance learning initiative since the rise of the COVID-19 crisis.


She has served in Harlandale ISD for more than 16 years in several capacities including academic coordinator, assistant principal and principal. And for the past seven years, she has served as the District’s director of secondary curriculum and instruction.


Casey brings a wealth of knowledge to the position due to her tenure in the district and the numerous committees she has served or led. In addition, she will provide an important educational leadership perspective of curriculum development and implementation to the position which is key to student success. 


“I am truly excited to continue in this new role at Harlandale ISD as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction,” Casey said. “Working here is wonderful. The relationships and partnerships with district staff, leaders, students and our community are very important to me, and I look forward to continuing this momentum and for the opportunity to make even stronger ties in my new role.”


Casey holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Texas San Antonio, a master of science degree in education administration from Texas A&M University Kingsville and superintendent certification from Texas A&M University San Antonio. 


Casey’s first official day as assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction is April 22.
