Harlandale ISD names new Executive Director of Maintenance and Operations

The Harlandale ISD Board of Trustees appointed Kyle Blakeney as the district’s new executive director of maintenance and operations during the regular board meeting held at Stonewall Flanders Elementary on Feb. 18.

Blakeney has worked in education for more than three decades at Harlandale ISD from serving as a classroom educator to director of maintenance and operations.

In his new role, Blakeney will oversee the maintenance, operations and construction projects for all 23 campuses and facilities throughout the district.

“I am excited to continue to work with Superintendent Gerardo Soto and begin this new chapter at Harlandale ISD,” Blakeney said. “I am looking forward to leading the hard-working group of employees here and spearheading new projects to ensure the educational success of all students.”

Blakeney began his career at Harlandale ISD in 1986 as a science and math teacher at Stonewall Flanders Elementary before joining the Maintenance, Operations, Safety and Transportation Department.

During the last 17 years, he has led several infrastructure improvements and bond projects in the district as the director for plant maintenance and operations. He has also created and executed annual budgets and provided guidance for the HISD Police Department, Athletics Department and the Crisis Management teams.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southwest Texas University and a Master of Education in School Administration from Our Lady of the Lake University.

Blakeney’s first official day as executive director of maintenance and operation is Feb. 19.
