San Antonio, TX. — The Harlandale ISD Board of Trustees officially named Carl Klann to serve as McCollum High School’s new head football coach.

This will be Klann’s return to Harlandale ISD’s McCollum High School after seven years. He previously served as the athletic coordinator and head football coach from 2003 to 2013.

Klann has served in various athletic coaching roles through his career including defensive coordinator, head football coach and athletic coordinator, where he has helped lead and promote student athlete development and opportunities for more than 30 years.

"I really enjoyed teaching and I am ready for a new challenge,” Klann said. “I’m excited for this opportunity and ready to get started and do my part. I’m also anxious to meet the kids. Hopefully we can move to a normal routine soon, but for now, we will wait and plan for the season.” Klann's coaching career with McCollum earned him many accolades including:
- 54 Wins in 10 Seasons, earning him more victories than any other coach in the school's history and the only coach to achieve an overall winning record for multiple season since 1976 - Led McCollum HS to state playoffs for seven years (2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011) - Only coach in school's history to win playoffs during the 2004 - 2005 season - Established school records for total offense (412 yds/game), passing offense (217 yds/game) and scoring offense (34.1 pts/game)

Klann holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of Texas at El Paso and a master of science degree in education administration from Texas A&M University Kingsville.

Klann’s first official day as head football coach is April 22.
