Graduation Update

Dear Class of 2020 Parents and Guardians -

(Para leer en español haga clic aquí)

Graduation is a momentous celebration and tradition for Harlandale families as we recognize our students and their accomplishments. As we near the end of the 2019-2020 school year, questions abound about graduation. Will it happen? When will it happen? How will it happen?

As of right now the plan for the Class of 2020 Graduation is scheduled for June 1 - 3, 2020. All Harlandale ISD graduation ceremonies will be held at Harlandale Memorial Stadium as follows:

Monday, June 1 FTA @ 10:00 a.m.

Monday, June 1 STEM @ 8:00 p.m.

Tuesday, June 2 HHS @ 10:00 a.m.

Wednesday, June 3 MHS @ 10:00 a.m.

After looking and communicating with campus leaders and district administrators, HISD has looked at every option possible available to celebrate our Class of 2020. While there is no guarantee that postponing the graduation dates will allow in-person ceremonies, we made an informed decision keeping the best interests of every Harlandale family in mind.

Our hope is to provide an in-person graduation among a small group of family and friends. The ultimate goal is to ensure every student has the opportunity to cross the stage in academic regalia as we honor their determination and perseverance throughout their school years.

We are committed to keeping students, families and staff safe and will adhere to recommendations from public health authorities regarding large gatherings.  For this reason, if Harlandale ISD is allowed to include guests, graduates will be issued tickets for only 4 guests. Social distancing, masks, and guidelines for taking temperature will be adhered to for graduates and guests.

In the event state and city officials do not allow for large public gatherings in June, we have designated July 20-22 as alternate dates. In the event that we are only allowed to conduct a graduate-only ceremony, this ceremony will be live-streamed. If any sort of in-person graduations are not permitted, we will move forward with a virtual graduation ceremony. We will have students cross the stage in small groups and stream the virtual experience for students and families at a later date.

Please know that we are monitoring this situation on a daily basis. This plan is pending final approval from the City and County. Harlandale ISD will observe all required guidelines for the safety of our students and our community.

Each high school will communicate their plan for seniors including cap and gown distribution and preparation for graduation. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Sincerely,

Gerardo Soto
