Proposed lone finalist named in Harlandale ISD superintendent search

The Harlandale ISD Board of Trustees names Gerardo Soto as proposed lone finalist in its search for a new district leader with a 7-0 vote.

Soto currently serves as the Executive Director for Maintenance and Operations and has worked in public education for 25 years.  He is very passionate about education and preparing all students for a college, career, military and work life. He has led numerous district initiatives and programs holding various leadership roles in Harlandale ISD.

According to state law, the school board must wait 21 days before offering Soto a contract.

“We strongly believe that Mr. Soto is definitely a great fit for our students, parents, leaders and community,” said School Board President Ricardo Moreno.  “He has a strong vision to provide our students diverse educational opportunities and we’re excited to continue to work with him.”

Soto began his career as a teacher’s assistant at Athens Elementary in South San ISD eventually becoming a certified classroom teacher, coach, vice-principal and principal.

“I feel honored and very privileged to have this board’s faith instilled in me with this position,” said Soto. “I wholeheartedly agree with the board and their belief that we are ultimately here for our children. It will be my goal to continue the great work and dedication for the betterment of our children, educators and the entire Harlandale community.”

Soto was named the proposed lone finalist at the school board meeting on Dec. 6.
