A new chapter is beginning for McCollum High School football as David Wilkinson takes the helm as the new Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator. With more than two decades of coaching experience and a history of success at top Texas high school programs, Wilkinson brings a strong vision for developing student-athletes on and off the field.
Wilkinson joins McCollum High School from Boerne High School, where he served as the offensive coordinator and play caller. Under his leadership, Boerne secured three district championships, two regional titles and a historic state championship game appearance in 2022, marking the school’s first-ever trip to the title game in its 98-year history.
Throughout his 24-year career, Wilkinson has coached at some of the most competitive high school programs in Texas, including Dickinson High School, Baytown Lee High School, Texas City High School, and Sweeny High School. As the Head Coach and Campus Athletic Coordinator at Baytown Lee, he led a program turnaround by instilling accountability and passion among coaches and athletes, guiding multiple athletic teams to the playoffs.
"Coach Wilkinson’s leadership, experience and dedication to building strong, well-rounded student-athletes make him the perfect fit for our campus," said Jacob Salinas, McCollum High School Principal. "We are excited to welcome him to the Cowboy family and look forward to seeing his impact on our students and athletic programs."
Wilkinson’s coaching philosophy centers on discipline, teamwork and developing student-athletes who excel not just in competition but also in the classroom and community.
Harlandale ISD and McCollum High School look forward to welcoming Coach Wilkinson and supporting his vision for the future of McCollum athletics.
