Today, the first candle of Kwanzaa is lit. During this vibrant week, we celebrate African American history and culture.
Each day shines a light on a different principle: Umoja (unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective work & responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuumba (creativity) and Imani (faith).
Merry Christmas to you and yours from your Harlandale Family!

Dear Harlandale ISD Parents/Guardians,
I want to let you know about a mass email that has been sent to many schools in our area, including other school districts as well. The email claims that it’s from a Russian terrorist organization and threatens violence at schools across Texas. While police do not believe this to be a credible threat, we take every instance like this seriously and the Harlandale ISD Police Department and the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) are investigating.
Police will also work with the FBI to identify the individual who sent the email, and there will be serious consequences once the source is identified.
As always we will continue to inform you and please know that the safety and well being of our students and staff is our priority.
Sincerely,
Gerardo Soto
Superintendent of Schools

Shoutout to a couple of our social workers who recently spearheaded a Mental Health First Aid training session for bus monitors!
This initiative aimed to empower our bus monitors with the knowledge and skills to identify signs of mental health challenges among students. Our social workers recognize the crucial role bus monitors play in the lives of our students and proactively introduced this early intervention public education program. Thank you for all you do for our students!
