From cheers in the hallways to smiles from former teachers, the Class of 2026 reflected on how far they’ve come while inspiring the next generation of students.

Middle school students developed their own educational video games, digital portfolios and coding projects while gaining valuable STEM experience and confidence along the way.

Nuestros estudiantes de Harlandale ISD mostraron recientemente su creatividad y sus habilidades de programación a través del programa VisionCoders, durante una exhibición especial de fin de año celebrada en Palo Alto College.

Kingsborough students began the year as learners and concluded the program as designers, coders and mentors, presenting their work to industry professionals at Palo Alto College.
Harlandale ISD congratulates all participating students, with a special shout out to Andrea Pedraza-Villasenor, who received Honorable Mention in the VisionCoders Reflection Contest.

Los estudiantes de Kingsborough comenzaron el año como aprendices y concluyeron el programa como diseñadores, programadores y mentores, presentando su trabajo ante profesionales de la industria en Palo Alto College.

Students heard about the partnership between Harlandale ISD and Texas A&M University-San Antonio, which provides opportunities for mentoring, access to university resources and the ability to begin earning college credit as early as ninth grade.

Gilbert Elementary celebrated “Pfeifer Day” a special day of celebration in honor of Ms. Judith Pfeifer on her retirement after 40 years of dedicated service to Harlandale ISD as a counselor. Throughout the day, students participated in activities recognizing her lasting impact, culminating in a heartfelt tribute as the student body gathered to celebrate her remarkable career.
Thank you, Mrs. Pfeifer, for four decades of compassion, guidance and commitment to student success. Your legacy will continue to inspire for years to come.

Today, the Harlandale ISD community came together for our Memorial Day Ceremony to honor and remember members of our community who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
We are grateful to everyone who joined us in reflection as we paid tribute to their courage, service and lasting legacy. Their sacrifice and dedication will never be forgotten.
A special thank you to the Harlandale JROTC, McCollum Trumpeters and Gillette Elementary Choir for their contributions to today’s ceremony.

Join us in congratulating all our students and staff members who were recognized during this evening's Harlandale ISD School Board Meeting:
• Abigail Arenas for earning two industry certifications in both Barbering and Cosmetology through our CTE programs.
• Marco Longoria for earning a gold medal and State Champion title with a first-place finish in the 50-meter run during the Special Olympics Texas Summer Games.
• Harlandale and McCollum High School bands and color guards for showcasing incredible performances during the 2026 Battle of Flowers Band Festival and Fiesta Flambeau Parade.
• Harlandale High School Marching Band earned 2nd Place Overall Band at the Fiesta Flambeau Parade.
• Hannah Aguirre from McCollum High School for receiving the prestigious Battle of Flowers Association $10,000 scholarship
• Harlandale Middle School Jazz Band for earning 1st Place at the Fiesta Jazz Festival at St. Mary's University. Also Mr. Michael Ybarra for receiving the Outstanding Middle School Director Award for Excellence in Jazz Education.
• Alejandra Alvarez from McCollum High School for being selected to participate in the prestigious 2026 Grammy Camp in Nashville, Tennessee.
• McCollum High School had several athletes represent Harlandale ISD at the Regional Track Meet this season: Noelisa Espinoza, Kayley Leal, Layla Gonzales and Isabella Sanchez in the 4x400-meter relay; Johannah Fuentes in Girls Discus; Juliana Torrez in the Girls Triple Jump; and Aaliyah Mancha and Brooke Romo in the Girls Shot Put.
• Harlandale High School also had athletes compete in the Regional Track Meet this season: Katelynn Juarez in the Pole Vault, Fernanda Huerta-Castillo in the 100-Meter Hurdles, Chloe Fischer in the 800 Meters, Perla Valenzuela in the Shot Put and Jermaine Ramirez in the boys Shot Put.
• IT Quiz Bowl Team for earning 3rd Place at the SkillsUSA State Contest: Khaleb Sanchez, Derek Balderamas, Ernest Hernandez, Octavia Orta, Alexander Gonzalez, Nader Vasheghani and Javier Medina.
• SkillsUSA Welding Students earned 3rd place thanks to their craftsmanship and technical ability: Maricella Loera, Rogelio Alvarado, Nallely Lopez, Milagros Fernandez Lopez, Raymond Perales, Juan Perez and Joseph Vera Cruz.
• State-recognized Electrical Apprentices for taking an important step toward becoming Journeymen Electricians, demonstrating the real-world impact of Harlandale ISD’s Career and Technical Education programs.
• Hector Amador, Heriberto Cruces, Angel Orosco, Elijiah Garcia and Louis Ramos for officially becoming state-recognized Plumber Apprentices.
• Team Venom for representing Harlandale ISD at the Alamo City Electrathon and earning the Champion Award for Best Pit Crew: Alex Tijerina, Julian Cuellar, Chris Hernandez, Audriana Gonzalez, Yasmin Nomani and Ava Jose.
• Autumn Villalobos from McCollum High School for receiving Palo Alto College's Nursing Program Golden Ticket.
• Byron Aikens and Jose Torres for earning 9/10 State Approved Automotive Service Excellence Certifications.
• A group of students who earned their HVAC EPA Refrigerant Certification: Chris Garcia, Ikaika Dominguez, David Romero, Alexander Guel, Josiah Trevino and Andrew Espinosa.
• Manuel Aguilar, for being named the 2026 Kid Mayor of the Splash Pad at Hemisfair’s Yanaguana Garden.
• Marco Garcia and Jesus Apolinar III from Harlandale High School's Theatre program for being cast as Orpheus and Hermes in Hadestown: Teen Edition at St. Philip's College.
• We now recognize 19 students from the McCollum High School Band program who qualified for the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Also congratulations to their directors Gilbert Borrego, Matthew Settles and Briann Jasso for their leadership.
• Four incredibly talented student-artists from Harlandale High School who advanced to the State VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) Competition and earned the distinguished honor of receiving Gold Medals for their artwork: Daniela Garnica-Bolanos, Lola Zapata, Maricella Loera and Destiny Palm.
• McCollum High School Softball for battling their way to the Regional Championship, showcasing resilience and pride from the south side every step of the way.
• Total District Allotment generated this year for our Harlandale ISD TIA Designated teachers was a little over $2.4 million this year, an increase of $308k from last year.
