It was a big day for Harlandale ISD as we broke ground on two major projects that will expand opportunities for our students and community. We celebrated the future Edmundo M. Zaragoza Multi-Purpose Arena — a state-of-the-art multi-purpose arena that will host academic, fine arts and athletic events, giving our students a first-class space to showcase their talents. We also broke ground at the Frank Tejeda Sports Complex, which will include upgraded turf softball/baseball fields, and newly constructed tennis courts. These projects are more than just upgrades — they are spaces where our students will compete, perform and shine. We look forward to welcoming families, alumni and visitors from across the state to witness the talent and dedication of our students. Thank you to our community for making this possible through Bond 2022!

Harlandale ISD is committed to providing students with opportunities that inspire innovation and open doors to future careers! Recently, 20 female students from Terrell Wells_HISD Middle School participated in the IDRA San Antonio STEM Youth Summit at St. Philip’s College, an event designed to spark a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Through hands-on workshops, technology demonstrations, and interactions with STEM professionals, our students explored new ideas, built critical thinking skills, and discovered the vast possibilities within STEM fields. With the support of our dedicated educators, Mr. Anguiano and Mrs. Morenz, they had a chance to network, learn, and grow in an environment that champions diversity in STEM. At Harlandale ISD, we take pride in ensuring our students have access to enriching experiences that prepare them for the future. We are proud of these young innovators and can’t wait to see where their STEM journey takes them next! #HarlandaleLegacy

Harlandale’s Future Engineers Shine at the Makerspace Engineering Fair! Our Harlandale Makerspace center recently hosted an exciting Engineering Fair, giving our middle school students the opportunity to showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills! These students, whose projects were selected as the best from their schools, competed in an in-district competition, pitching innovative ideas to solve real-world problems. A panel of judges evaluated the projects and awarded students in categories such as "Most Innovative Design," "Best Presentation," and "Best Overall Project." Events like this help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally—preparing them for even bigger challenges ahead. Congratulations to all our participants for their hard work and ingenuity! We can’t wait to see where your ideas take you next! #HarlandaleLegacy

What better way to celebrate the joy of reading than by sharing it with others? To wrap up our Read Across America Week, students from Harlandale High School visited Gilbert Elementary and spent time reading to the younger students and inspiring them to develop a lifelong love for books. It was a heartwarming sight to see our older students giving back, showing that reading isn’t just about words on a page—it’s about connecting, learning, and growing together. Let’s keep the spirit of reading alive! Pick up a book, explore new worlds, and let your imagination roam free! #ReadAcrossAmerica #HarlandaleLegacy

As we continue celebrating National School Social Work Week, we’re excited to spotlight another amazing member of our Harlandale ISD family—Ms. Angela Solis! A proud Harlandale alum, Ms. Solis graduated from Harlandale High School in 2006 and, after starting her career as an associate scientist, followed her true calling to help others. She earned her Master’s in Social Work and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, bringing her passion and expertise back to the community that shaped her. Now serving at Schulze Elementary, she also plays a vital role as one of the district’s Mental Health First Aid Instructors. Ms. Solis is more than just a social worker—she’s a mentor, an advocate, and a friendly face who brightens the school day. Whether she’s leading parades, singing with students at lunch, or participating in spirit weeks, she creates a welcoming space where students feel supported and valued! Fun Fact: Ms. Solis loves music so much, that she has been the "DJ" for the school carnival and one school dance (so far)! Please join us in thanking Ms. Solis for her dedication to our students, families, and the entire Harlandale community. We are so lucky to have her! #HarlandaleLegacy
